My bike was acting crazy...backfiring, popping horribly on decel. This has happened three times since I have owned the bike. Every time it has been the ignition. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check your ignition system. The first time it was a fouled plug. The second time a wire rubbed thru. The last time it was the aft plug had worked loose. It is always stated by the great minds on Badweb to look at the ignition so don't be afraid to go back over everything again. I know I tightened my plugs but it still became loose. Just some info for those with similiar symptoms, hope it helps.
