Author Message   Tdman77 Posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 09:29 pm:        I just got a set of the PM wheels for my X1. I just don't have the funds left over to take it the the stealership. How hard is it to put the tires on yourself? There are some threads here but they all talk about using a machine. I have lots of experience with mt bike tires but never tired to change a motorcycle tire. What is the minimum tools required? I mean from taking off the old wheels to putting on the new ones on the bike. Thanks   Sslowmo Posted on Saturday, March 28, 2009 - 04:38 pm:        Breaking the bead is your biggest problem. Get that done and just some tire irons and some rim protectors and also wheel paste or soapy water and the installation should go easy. Put the new tires in a hot car for a few hrs and it helps. Good luck, one more thing, if your fighting it your not doing something right... Check wheel rotation with tire's designed rotation, before mounting new tire. Look for colored 'dot' markings on tire sidewalls. Mount-up tire's 'dot' aligned with wheel's air-valve; toward a balanced assembly. After removing old tire, clean inner wheel perimeters thoroughly. As an aid to smoothly & uniformly accepting bead of new tire. K-Y jelly = substitute tire lube. DIY rim protectors may be cut from plastic bleach bottle-type containers.   Tdman77 Posted on Sunday, March 29, 2009 - 04:05 pm:        Thanks for the info. I will be putting on the new tires as soon as they get here. So far I have 2 tire irons, and cut up a plastic laundry soap bottle for the rim protectors. The good news is that I have new wheels so no need to mess around with taking off the old ones right now. A couple of bearings, a steel rod and a couple of jack stands. I am going to get them today. I'll post pics of the set up later tonight.
