I have a 1998 S3 and when I get on the accelerator to pass, or from a standstill I seem to get a vibration, or almost a shutter and a lack of power when I exceed 4k RPM's. Anyone have any suggestions to what this could be caused from? thanks! |

If it runs OK otherwise, I'd check the condition of the spark plugs, the plug cables and the air cleaner for starters. Marginal ignition components can cause the engine to run OK at part throttle but sputter and miss upon heavy throttle demands. An air filter, when partially clogged, can restrict full power output at higher speeds. If you know your bike's maintenance history, that'll give you a feel for when tune-up items need service. If not, I'd change out or clean the air filter (if it's a K&N washable type) and put in fresh spark plugs. |

That sounds like it could be the issue. Because otherwise, yes its running fine. I will check into plugs, wires, and filter and let you know how I made out. Thanks Sparky! |

I checked everything out, and can you believe it?! It ended up being the brake pads! Why wouldn't you have thought of that Sparky? HAHA! NO NO NO! It seems the trouble was the air filter. Thanks again for the help Sparky! Cheers friend! |

Believe it or not, but binding brake pads did have an effect of my 98 S3 losing power and speed once. But, yeah, I didn't think that would be your problem. Glad you got it sorted out. |
