I'm sure y'all have seen these questions a dozen times, but I could use a little help. Got an 05 XB12R and I am thinking of venting the airbox. If I ONLY vent the air box (still 100% stock right now) without changing or modifying the muffler, will it make a difference in performance? Will I need to ECMspy it for this? Im looking for a little more oomph without spending a small fortune. Thanx in advance!

not really and no. changing the filter has more effect than cutting holes in the airbox. you should do both. still probably fine without tuning.

So, I'll only need to tune it if I mod the muffler? What does the airbox mod and a K&N do to the torque/hp curve?

things will change with airbox mods but not enough that the ecm can't adjust it. When you start adding things that change the amount of air flow and how it flows (exhaust, cams) then it is no longer a matter of a whole fuel table moving up or down, it's a matter of taking fuel out in some places and added it in others. That's when you need to tune. As far as hp/tq with the a/c, it will be the same just maybe a little better, but you won't feel it. You might notice the fuel mileage change though.
