My 02' Blast transmission is playing games with me. My 1st-3rd gear drive fine, but there is no getting to 4th or 5th. The shifter won't budge, it's like the gears don't exist. Also, when the bike is off and in 2nd gear, I can coast all the way down the drive way with no gear stop. I don't know if I need to replace the entire transmission or if it can be worked on reasonably. The bike was stolen, and when I got it back it had been dogged out BAD. I've fixed everything EXCEPT this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

the shift drum is most likely the culprit. Sorry to say but you will probably need to go in the trans. |

You don't need to replace the transmission, it is a serviceable thing. Bret, does "into the transmission" mean splitting the cases? If you have to split the cases, it means taking the engine apart too, as that's the only way to get inside the transmission. It's not really that difficult of job, but it's a big help to have someone who knows what they are doing around. You can look through the thread below to see some pictures of the top end coming off a Blast. You'll have to do the bottom end too. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/324608.html?1211478074 Of course that assumes you have to go inside the transmission. I may have misunderstood Bret. |

Thanks for the advice guys. Do you know if traditional car transmission shops will work on bikes or I am forced to Pay an arm and leg to the Harley shop to do the job. Im a college kid on a budget trying to find the cheapest way to get over this. |

There isn't anything a car transmission shop couldn't do, though whether they would be interested I don't know. I also doubt they would be cheaper than an dealer. The least expensive way to fix it is to buy the service manual and fix it yourself. There are people in the world who love this sort of stuff. See if you can find one to help. |

It will take wrenching skills, and tools...but I would start by checking the shift mechanism..it is possible the shift drum retainer has come loose or the shift mechanism has been knocked badly out of adjustment..you have to remove the primary cover and the clutch/primary drive to get to the shift mechanism...but you don't have to pull/disassemble the engine. You will need a service manual and/or an experienced wrench to pull it off though...post this in the Thumper section and maybe there is a Blastard in your area willing to help. If it's not in the shifter mechanism, you most likely have badly whacked shift forks...that WILL require complete disassembly.. |

Does anyone have an electronic repair manual or a spare copy I could buy for an 02' Blast? I have a Paypal account to send funds instantly. Everyday this bike is down is a day I can't go to work. I'm starting to wish I took auto-tech in high school... -Thanks guys- |
