Hi Guys, I have an interesting problem with my 04 XB12R that I would appreciate your advice on.I recently did a TPS reset using Ecmspy and when I started my bike up to do the final idle adjustment noticed that the TPS percentage value was fluctuating in Ecmspy I had set the TPS value to 5.1% however it was jumping to 5.5%? then back again to 5.1% by itself so I waited until it had warmed upto over 160 degrees/yellow closed loop and increased the idle to aprox 1050 rpm/7.5 TPS.I went for a decent ride and left the bike for a day and then checked the TPS value again and it was showing as 5.9%???Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought the TPS value when set it stayed the same and didn,t change? I have checked for manifold leaks using the spray method and found nothing could the TPS sensor be faulty? the only changes done recently were to install a new set of handlebar grips however I have rechecked all the cables twice over, I would appreciate any advice as the next stop is my Dealer as this is freakin me out and my bike is really hard to start. Check throttle cable play first. Take off the TPS and check if it's not sticking anywhere as it's just springloaded. Follow the service manual when reinstalling TPS to remove free play as suggested. (Message edited by id073897 on January 18, 2009) |

This happened to me when first adjusting idle & TPS on my '04 XB-R: Idle adjustment screw at throttle body was binding: hard to turn. This binding led me to unintentionally 'wind-up' its extension cable, storing some energy there. That "wind-up tension" in extension cable affected idle settings, changed them. Lube for this adjustment screw at throttle body made a significant difference. |

Hi Guys, Quick update, I had my Dealer check out my bike they said the cables and TPS sensor were ok and did a TPS reset.The bike goes better however its not fixed. the TPS % value is still fluctuating Great! I will be speaking to the service manager again. When I checked the bike with Ecmspy after the Dealer had done their TPS reset the TPS value in Ecmspy was 5.1% just enough to start the bike can I just increase this with the idle screw to say 5.5% or 5.8% with the bike cold or do I need to fully warm up the bike before making any idle adjustment? just asking as I don't want to end up with a too high idle when fully warmed up. What I did was set my TPS to 4.6/5.1 via ECMSPY and adjusted my idle to ~1000 RPM manually on the bike when the bike was fully warmed up. When the weather got really cold I occasionally had to hold the throttle open a little bit until the motor got a little warm so I ended up fiddling around with the cold start enrichment values until I got them both (cold and warm) correct. If you set your idle when motor is cold you will end up with a very high idle when the bike warms up. |

the TPS % value is still fluctuating It's a flapping LSB, pretty usual. |

It's a flapping LSB, pretty usual Hi IdO73897, Thank you for your comment ( you too Kalali)would you mind explaining what you mean by this though?, no disrespect intended as I know are very knowledgeable but I am still trying to determine if my TPS Sensor is faulty or if maybe its behaviour as outlined in my first post could be normal?.I have been told the TPS% value shouldn't change so now I am wondering if this is right?. I did a datalog w}ith Ecmspy of my bike idling and viewing it using VE analyser you can see the TPS % value rise and fall as it runs. So I'm a little confused. Many thanks Regards Tobycat NZ |

I did a datalog with Ecmspy of my bike idling and viewing it using VE analyser you can see the TPS % value rise and fall as it runs. So I'm a little confused. Compare TPS-% to TPS-8bit and you will see how the change of the least signifcant bit of TPS-8bit is causing the fluctuation. |

Hi Id073897, Thanks again for the reply, still confused but think I understand (I am not an expert with VE Analyser or Ecmspy), however am I right to say that this part of your post "least significant bit..." is the key reference? eg your saying this TPS behaviour is nothing to worry about.Please let me know if I am wrong.
