Gents of BadWeb My name is Justin, from Jhb, South Africa. I hope i am in the right section to post this.... Background. 05 XB City Cross 59000km's She stood for roughly 5 months after having an off on the racetrack whilst frame and various bits were painted and powder coated, frame included. Problem. She won't idle without help once she is warm. Over 3000/3500 rpm she runs like a demon!! Fixes tried. Replacing fuel filter, which was seriously needed judging by the cr@p that came out. Checking all wiring and harness integrity, insulating suspect wires. Have new intake manifold seals and still need to rotate block to change. Am i heading in the right direction sir's?? Outside (locally educated) Buell Tech says it's the fuel pump, cost R6149, which is a PACKET of money I don't have. At times, i will start and she will idle like a baby on the breast, take her for a run, after 30 or so kilometers, if i come to a stop a traffic light, i have to assist with her idle. Loads of backfiring through the new Micron system. My hands are full of gunk as i type this, i am a tad frustrated. Any educated input would really be appreciated. |

check for an intake leak (spray some brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner at the seals), maybe the map is suspect, was it running good before with the micron? if changes happened after pipe change it could be a tuning thing. also TPS reset sometimes cures these problems |

She was running sweet prior the Micron, and then post the Micron too!! Will try find something to spray at the seals and see what she does ..... frustration has set in!! |

You stated that there was a lot of crap in the fuel filter and that the problem comes and goes a bit. I would be looking at the fuel system for crap that got past the filter and is clogging something partially up. Maybe even the fuel filter again. What kind of crap? Where did the crap come from? Also, check your electrical grounds for good contact. You never know. |

Hi Buellers, Since the past summer I'm having also exactly the same symptoms on my X1 (low idle), and I have not solved yet. It's puzzling. I suspect bad Fuel Pump. Follow the thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?3842/426796 I will Keep you updated on what I find. Greetings. |

Try re-setting your Throttle Position Sensor. This usually is the first thing you should check when idle is a problem. A mal-adjusted TPS will cause idle problems. The fuel pump on the XB models are expensive. USD360 new. However, parts for the fuel pump is available from Buell, and the Factory Service Manual recommends repairing/replacing parts on a fuel pump instead of replacing the whole item. Removing the fuel pump requires removal of the swingarm, or if you do it right, you can remove the rear wheel and raise the bike from muffler while allowing the rear swingarm to lower, hence allowing you the space to remove fuel pump. But all replaceable fuel pump parts are buried within the frame and requires pump removal. Start with TPS re-set. |
