Finally got videos of my ghetto muffler mod on my XB12S, it's a 2005 with barely 1000 miles on it, I bought it new in September from a Buell dealer with 13 miles on it. Anyway, I pounded a big concrete breaker bar up the pipe till it ripped the inside pipe and this bypassed the two of the three tubes inside the muffler. Total cost..... $18 This is the way I've had always modded the mufflers on all my bikes, this one being my 12th or 13th, I've been riding since 1970, stopped for a while in the late 80's and started this year again. I missed having a bike.. LOL, You asked for it. You probably lost horsepower, torque, and fuel economy, but you did get LOUD. Mission accomplished. Congrats. |

It took me about 2 hours of welding and cutting to undo that same modification on an 85 KLR-250 I bought. But it was worth it, as the bike ran so much better when I had returned it to (nearly) stock. |

Well Tim, the secret of riding a bike here in the LA jungle is to have a loud bike. 1200 cc's is way more cc's than I'll ever need. Actually I accomplished what many are doing by cutting the back end of the muffler and cutting the pipe inside. I installed a Jardine on the bike and it was so loud that I couldn't hear myself think. I'm looking for a Buell racing muffler but have not been able to bid high enough on Ebay for one. Has anyone opened one of these "race" mufflers. |
