Someone explain to me WHY since the XB12 has been out for some many years and these 88/90 kits have been out just about as Long... WHY has there NOT been many that have installed them???? What I have read seems the xb12 cams are good to go with them or one could go with the 585`s or 643`s RS... Put that a side maybe New Springs etc... but still Like I said there may be those that have done it but I am sure one has more fingers on one hand than those that have done it... Must be the Fueling/mapping where the biggest problem lies... as them 88/90 piston / cylinder kits are just like 650.00 bucks now... So what gives??? Also with all this Talk all ecmspy etc etc... you wd. have thought that wd. have helpped on the mapping etc.. But what do I know Just a wany a be.. that wd. Love to build a 88 up and NoT set it on KILL.. |

88/90" kits...meh. That's my reaction to them anyway, I'm guessing that many others have a similar reaction. My bike runs great as it is, why would I want to mess that up? I'm completely not downplaying the kits- rather simply sharing my reaction to them, and supposing that many others have the same reaction. How much power, and more importantly- drivability, is gained with these kits anyway? |

I think the 1250 kits are a lot more common than the 88" or bigger kits. Most likely due to concerns about the drivability, and long-term endurance of that much internal engine modification. I was interested in an 88" kit or something similar, but after calling a few shops I was told by each one that they are all designed for drag bikes or track bikes. If a performance shop is trying to convince me not to spend money with them, then I'm leaving my STREET bike just the way it is. |

I think most people are put off by the labor cost. Removing the motor and splitting the case + complete disassembly is not something most owners should attempt. Also there are not a lot of shops that can bore the crankcase. I have had 3 big bore bikes and enjoyed every one of them. If you decide to do it just post lots of pictures. |

YEah I have a 5 inch Stroker i Built as well Dual plugged Heads the whole package the list goes on and on and its one HUGE torque Monster etc.. YEah I think why the 1250 kits worked good is the fueling and maps are alot closer to the xb12 as far as the cc`s are concerned Big difference maybe to get them right for the 1450 kits etc.. but who knows...! Perhaps one or more of the 4 or 5 Performance shops Sponsors within Bad Web can and some info on this...! Man can you Imagine the performance for a 1450 kit and I don`t mean to set it on KILL even a 1350 Kit IF one was avaliabe wd. even be better Hmm??? Like say 115 HP and say 100 lbs. of Torque....! hogs, you are right. the fuel mapping is an issue with these big motors. in a lot of cases you may not be able to adjust the map to add enough fuel at wide open throttle even with 1250s. some ways around this are installing a higher pressure regulator, using the 9r throttle body with xbrr injectors, etc. another way is finding how to (with a tuner) change the WOT correction to more than 100%. this will add more fuel on top of the current rate of delivery. most of these 88 and 90 kits you might see out there are all on bikes with carbs, thus no fuel delivery issues. i have been frustrated in the past and know all about having a bike too lean. |

Buelltuner, Guess thats my point why do they advertise these big bore kits and there are 2 or 3 companies that do so for the XB`s IF they don`t do the R&D on all aspects of the total package needed to do so... Just Burns my ARSE that they don`t Period YEah I heard about different Injecters/Squezzing the stock fuel regulator for a mod, Not sure why the xb9 T.Body comes into play though... Plus I know there are many other acces. to say to add to go with But IF I was promoting a product on forms , the World wide WeB.etc.etc., for sale the R&D. should all be done. Thanks (Message edited by hogs on December 05, 2008) |

Great question about the big bore kits, Hogs. Seems reasonable to claim that the H-D community knows something about hot-rodding v-twins, so why not package the know-how along with pistons & cylinders for Buell XBs? Every time a thread appears here about engine kits, I'm all eyes'n'ears. But it's surprising that we have so few examples of built motors in BadWeb. Some day when my 401k is back in decent shape, I'll pull the trigger on my very own old school "stroke and bore", taking my humble XB9 out to 1250 or beyond. Sure would be nice to know what options for effective fueling are out there. Buelltuner, tell us more about the XB9 throttle body implementation. Is the idea to increase charge velocity? |

Standard sporty motor about 60hp Buell motor 103hp Take a chunk out of the case to install bigger barrels and extract more hp? I think that the issue in most peoples minds is the longevity/reliability of this mod. Buell have already raised the out put very significantly without reducing case strength. Also, the installation of an xb9 TB to increase airflow? Velocity yes- volume...? |

I don`t think Case strength is a factory here... Seen to MAny Top Fuel HArleys using Sportster cases in the past, Producing awhole lot more than 80 Horsepower as you say xb Buells have..LEts Say 200 plus and other S&S Sportsters Strokers etc etc So The Case it self is not a problem... Got to get back to the fuelling/mapping areas... |

the 9 throttle body suggestion is really more about injectors than velocity. the 9 throttle bodies hold the injectors at an angle pointing them into the intake port, thus they can use a normal style multi hole injector. on the other hand, the 12 throttle bodies have the injectors mounted in a vertical position and use a single hole injector that is skewed to spray at an angle into the port. the front injector is diff from the rear. Also, i have looked, and looked some more and nobody can modify those stock 12 injectors or offers a higher flow replacement due to the skewed style. So, some people (mostly racers) have used a combo of a 9 throttle body and a higher flow traditional style injector i.e. an XBRR injector. the cost to do this is not cheap, but i may try it someday anyway. |

hogs, as far as a way to tune these big motors. you will need a higher pressure regulator, and I would recommend ECM SPY to tune it because there is a function for WOT correction. these two things will allow you to have enough fuel to support 115-125 Hp. the WOT correction is really the key, it will let you add more fuel than the map bits will allow. Lastly you need a good tuner to dial it in.(this can be the toughest) p.s. the weak link of the buell motors with high Hp is the crank. |

Any idea as to why the injectors are positioned differently? |

in theory the single jet of fuel hits the back of the intake valve and atomizes while it cools the valve in the 12's. |

Iīm really getting tired of telling always the same story: I do have built more than one of these engines and I have always used the stock injection system. I do have customers with more than 20.000 miles on these engine kits without any problem. I will tell You why there are not many of these engines out there: itīs not a Plugīn Play kit. It takes a lot of professional engine work and knowledge (engine building, head porting and dyno tuning). Thatīs why it costs easily more than half of the price of a new Buell. Are You willing to spend that much? Think about it. Regards Alex |

Limited, sorry, just saw this thread. XB 90 inch kits are very doable but you must realize the added expense that comes with the necessary machining--engine comes out and gets completely disassembled, cases are bored to accept bigger cylinders. We also recommend boring your throttle body and use a different fuel pressure regulator. We just did a 90 inch Uly for a customer recently, runs like a scalded ape,he made about 118 HP and another one we did on and XB made 120. |

I have a project 90 inch build taking place right now, Im about half way done and spent about 3k already. Terry is helping me along with Andrew at Revolution. Im doing all the labor on my end as well. Should be a beast since I have the a Beson Exhaust.... |
