If there's a book-list thread existing in Forum, please direct me to it. Otherwise, this thread may seed a "reading list" around: 'historical, technical, and Buell aligned' books. I'm more interested in Sportsters since August this year (buying 1st Buell). (Are XBs today's "real" H-D sportsters?) Anyway, I found & ordered book below, <$30. *Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance Handbook* By Buzz Buzzelli Published by MotorBooks/MBI Publishing Company, 1997, ISBN 076030307X, 9780760303078, 256 pages. |

Good idea! I bought an XB9 recently after riding a Blast for three seasons and want to learn more about riding technique. I recently noticed someone recommended: "Total Control" by Lee Parks as a good book on riding. |

"(Are XBs today's "real" H-D sportsters?)" Really the questions should be are todays Sportsters "real" Buell motors. Sportsters dream of having what a Buell has under the hood, so to speak. We won't even get started on the handling side.

Hopefully you are getting the 3rd edition of Buzz's book. The third edition came out in '06. Another good one is Kip Woodring's "Sportster/Buell Engine Hop-up Guide" |

I have both of Code's books. I found them...boring as hell...and never finished book 1. Code may be a great instructor, but a writer? Not. Woodring's book is very good and an interesting read, as is the Buzzelli book. A big thumbs-up on Total Control book as well. Another really good pair are David Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling" and "More Proficient Motorcycling", especially for the new or semi-new rider...and yes! You CAN teach an old rider new tricks! |
