I want to know why Harley has such a convoluted process for replacing the crank pinion brg?Is there someone on this site who can explain the reasoning for this involved process?
I restore and race both vintage and modern bikes, plus do all my own work.I am a machinist who owns his own shop.
I have several bikes that run the 3 pce. roller main brgs and none of them require all the labor and grinding of brg journals and matching of brg roller sizes that the sportster engine requires. You just replace the brgs and you are done with it.
What is the reason behind this? Can someone who has built and raced these engines explain why they have this process?
Sorry for the long post but I am in the process of rebuilding 2 X1's and the local dealership is of no help. Thanks
Dave
