Hog, all the tube frame bike were made in pretty low numbers. Given the various permutations that required a new VIN, California, Canada etc and that the totla WL production was pretty small all the bikes will someday be good values. That someday will be a long way off and by good value I mean that you might get somethign close to what you paid for it I woud lride the puppy. |

I never said I didn't ride my bike (5500 mi.), I just thought that it being the first S1W off the line for sale to the public might have some significance to a collector. Buelliedan you should never say never... (Message edited by roadhog on May 23, 2003, %time) |

Your bike, the 1214th S1WL made by Buell, was built on 7/24/97 and shipped to the dealer on 8/7/95. It was one of the 12 they bought. Of note is that they also bought 2 of the twin tails. The most valuable thing about your bike is the general attraction of the 1998 Buells with the Thunderstorm engine and the killer "triple white" color scheme. Court |

Hmmm... That's interesting. How did you come up with the sequence number and build date? I thought they started the sequence with 38. The bike was picked out at the factory with Erik Buell and sold through Keith Ulicki on 8/4/97 I was under the impression that it was one of the first off the line. Anyway I love the thing and your right that paint is killer, its the one thing everybody comments on. I'm new to this BBS and think its great to finally find a Buell site that is active. Lots of good information here. (Admin changed a not to be mentioned spelling error to keep some other less nice admin from adding a new guy to the hall of shame ">... Hint, c != k "> ) } |

They did...at least the J1W sequence, which started well into the production year. I have 3 e-mails from folks proudly proclaiming they have S3 No 1. Keith didn't pick it up, Kenny did, in a black pick-up on August 7th. They also picked up a couple "early" ones. Court |

Any where near Marietta? The tanks, generally, had the initials and date of the person who did the "dunk" in water to test the pressure integrity. Then again, if it has "bad-race use only", then you *DO* have a rare one.

No. Buell has made incredible strides in overcoming their slow shipping pains of the early years. Taking cues from "just in time" science, Buell actually began producing bikes in 1997 and shipping them two years before they were produced in an effort to silence the critics.

Not too far from Marietta, I'm a bit more North. Bottom of my tank someone wrote: "MARTIN 400" & "SW 320". I posted some pic's of my bike in the "Cool Buell Pics" section. One from my Garage and Two at Road Atlanta. |

RS reserve question: When the RS hits reserve, it shuts down until (apparantly) I pop the gas cap. It happened a few weeks ago and again this morning. Since it died the last time I hit reserve I figured I'd be tricky and flip reserve on early. But just a few miles later it quit on me. I pulled over, popped the gas cap (1.5 gal left when I hit reserve), restarted and continued to work. The vent seems to be working (I see vapor and bubbles escaping on a hot day). Could anything else be causing it? Thanks, Josh |

Okay...who has the Red 1991 RS-1200 ending in 33075? The white (blue decals) ending in 33102? Drop me a note. Intersting tidbit that came out of some research. Josh's RS-1200 was built by a Badwebber who does NOT post anonymously. Too totally cool or what? Find me another company in the world where that happens? And, with a span of 13 (interesting cooincidence there) years from build to badweb. Court |

Cooool. Nope. "Normal" I was giving it a good thrashing on Friday (the road near my office has nice curves and a hill but bad pavement) Man what a difference a few suspension changes make. Still needs a little tuning but I'm no longer afraid to ride hard. Well, ok the tires are rock hard but I'm not afraid of the suspension. I might trade the S3 for an FJR1300. I may eventually give up the S1 for a hyper-sport - but the RS is here for good. Now if only I could afford Ricky's RSS.... |

Heya out there,,,I just found out my 95 S2 was a "factory owned" bike. What exactly does that mean? That it was ridden like HELL for its first few miles? Or that it was taken care of like no other bike? Maybe YOU rode my bike too,,,,lol. Really, What practically does it mean? Thanks ,,,,JM |

Joplin: Relax....it was a "COV", company owned vehicle. Could have been one of the demo fleet, that accounted for about 50 of the breed. Could have been a media bike or perhaps just one issued to one of the factory or HD folks or District Managers. Most the District Managers didn't take Buells until the 1998 S1WL's came out and then they were "encouraged" to ride Buells that year to assimilate some knowledge. The actual "test" bikes likely never see the light of day depending on just what they were tested FOR. Many will recall my 1996 red S-1 (technically B-031) and the story of it getting "erased" from the rolls, which at the time were a white "write on" board, until the factory tag expired at which time it was purchased by Topeka HD/Buell and later sold. One things for sure...if it's a 1995 S2 you are gonna love it! Court |

Thanks Court,,,,I love it already,,,just was trying to findout what recalls other than the obvious were done and they told me it was a COV. It has 20k but in my limited experience with these guys, runs great. Seems all stock,,, rode but not abused,, and a grinmaker for the throttle twister. Thanks again,,,JM |

So when will the XB-to-chain conversion kit be available? We'll need it for a salt attempt |

Road Racing World has an add for the chain swingarm for the XB's somewhere towards the back this month, and I think they give a price now. I recall (but this is from memory) like $1500 for the part, and Woodcraft being the manufacturer. Not cheap, but a pretty complicated part. (Forehead slap) Doh! Ya think this (Woodcraft) and the above picture might somehow be related. Never made that connection until now. |

Why not. This thread is about Buell history, right? Are the XBs not part of it? I'm just curious as to how BMC has done compared to other years. I know I'm new to Buelldom, but after reading this "Classic Buells and Buell History" I am indeed impressed, and in awe. I can't think of anything that comes close to this kind of history. The closest thing I can think of is Apple Computer and Steve Jobs... |

Rex: That is *SOME* Buell you got your hands on. There's info on the way to you that I prepared about it's history. Read close, see if you see what I saw. If you don't see it . . . remind me to tell you Regardless....mark that one a KEEPER! Court
