I'm trying to replace the clutch in my 99 Cyclone. I got the Barnett 9 plate kit and spring tool from American Sportbike. I have the compression tool on the pressure plate but can't get the snap ring out. What am I doing wrong? |

You have to exert sufficient pressure with the compression tool to be able to move the snap ring around. If you can move it around, then you should be able to get in there with snap ring pliers to get it out. Next there's a spring seat that has to be removed from the spring seat groove in the clutch hub in order to remove the pressure plate. |

I didn't have the clutch spring compressed enough. My clutch plates were in fairly good condition for 39,000 miles. The "grenade plate" rivets were getting loose, glad I caught it before it exploded. Turns out, the throw-out bearing was causing most of my clutch problems. Of course my local dealer doesn't have one in stock, should be here in a week. Grrrrrrrrrrr..... |
