I have seen plenty of post asking about full fairings and where to get em etc etc. and one mentioned retro fitting a different bikes set to it. Well i am part way thru it. thought some pp might be interested to see what i am doing as an alternative. I'm out in australia and to get full fairings to me would cost upwards of 1500 so cancelled that idea. decided on 748 fairings as all others seem to have holes for crankcases and a like and would have most likely look way out of place. sourced a set from ebay for about $550 aust dollars delivered.not a bad fit. a little trimming, but so far so good. here's a link of what i'm up to. hopefully will get the screen and finish making mounting brackets to suit in next couple weeks. unfortunately its got stickers and been cleared over so will need to play with em a while to have em removed and resprayed, but was only set i could find in fibreglass as opposed to plastic, since i can modify the glass ones if required and not plastic. http://www.new.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=95022&id =1255120731 |

Great work! Not for me though as it makes the bike look like all the others. |

Looks great to me. Can you post details of where you found it, cost and what you had to do to modify it? Great job! |

heat wrapped headers. about $30 from ebay and the airbox cover made a female mould and made this out of fibreglass and carbonfibre. this was the first one i made and am refining the manufacture bit by bit. ducati fairings - 255 GBP delivered these were the cheapest fibreglass fairings i could find. and sold bits i didn't use for $130 AUS http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360081723634 seller was mc-9238 screen was like 10 bucks plus 20 delivery Australian from ebay. carbon tail seat cowl and airbox cover were $450 US plus $50 delivery from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=220285905394 seller Eastcarbon. and the nose cone is just regular 2x2twill carbon fibre cloth. this picture is only after laying it on without sanding/clear/sand/clear/sand/clear. etc. still need to mould a piece to cover sprocket cover next to right foot and left side needs more work as had to remove a larger part for stand use. as for looking like all other bikes, gimme a bit more time. (and money) |

Not to change the subject, but how do you like the carbon parts from eastcarbon on ebay? I see the sell tons of stuff for our XB's, but I have been skeptical of the quality. How is the fit/finish of their products? Thanks |

Nice dude! I didn't even know you could put another bikes fairing on a Bolt. Looking good! I really love the full fairing look, confuses the crap outta people all the time to. I just shipped a pair of forks to New Zealand and it was lik 150 bucks, I couldn't imagine getting a fragile full fairing set shipped there. |

YEr the finish is quite nice. fit is a little off but nothing too major. tanks cover is about 3mm front and back to frame and one side is about 1mm and other side is 5mm in middle of side. but hey you can only look at one side at a time. tail section is good fit. slightly longer/maybe 3mm but as it is un the underside whetre it curves under above the tail light is not noticable. and the seat cover i put a little bead of silicon on it to stop it rubbing on the tail and hold it in place. maybe 2mm off on one side on front of it where it matches up to tail, right behind riders a*s. haven't tried standard cover to see if it the cowl or the seat that is off. but for $500US all up delivered you really can't complain. have to really be looking for faults to notice them. |

just an update of where i'm up to with it all. modified the 748 sides by cutting about 3 inches outta them to give more leg room and tie in better with the frame. looks good i reckon. and a tru one of a kind. just ordered the sharkskins fibreglass bottom of the full fairing kit to use as the start point for the remainder on my kit. should arrive in a week or so then plenty more molding and modding to make the plug for that to make the bottom in carbonfibre also. |

Just an update. Using the Hal's Sharksin lower as a base then hacking it to bits and combining with the 748 based sides I now have a finished (less final sand and clearcoat to improve finish) full carbon faired buell. A true one of a kind. Next part of the project is going to be an attempt to fit different headlights to a carbon race front. possible Hyosung 650R or ducati 749 lights. |
