I'm a long-time Harley rider (1978 FXE custom) and just started riding sportbikes late last year (1982 Suzuki Katana) and that has lead me to consider a Buell. I've gravitated to the XB9R/XB12R series, but want to know how much better the 2006/2007 models are compared to the earlier 2003/2004 models. Riding older bikes (I've never even ridden an Evo), I'm accustomed to funkiness, but I wouldn't mind something solid. I have the opportunity to buy a clean stock 2003 XB9R for $2900, but don't want to bother if the newer models are significantly better (but at twice the price!). Thoughts??? Thanks!! - Scott |

Well, that bike retails (in needs nothing condition) for $5k, so, I'd take it for a spin, if engine/trans work as they shoud, I'd JUMP on it at that price, even if it needs tires, and brakes. getting it at that price, you can afford to spend some and still have a helluva deal overall!! check mileage, evidence of crash (frame damage)..DEFINITELY worth looking at in person and test-riding..Let's see what others have to say................ |

Thanks for the advice Packrat, I went ahead and bought the 2003 XB9r. I'm getting it from a small dealer via Craigslist, so I never had a chance to check it in person. The photos looked good, even though I suspect there was a dent in the left-side frame due to the paint consistency (if so, the repair job looks good). But at $2900, I think I can deal with that, as the rest of the bike looks very clean. And based on the posts from others here, I just bought an open airbox kit from American Sport Bike, a Race ECM from another BWB member, and a Micron Serpent exhaust after reading the Exhaust Shootout results on American Sport Bike (never seen anything like it!). Woo-hoo!! I've got the sickness... |

These are the pics supplied by the dealer; it is being shipped from MA to CA. I'm no bodywork pro, but the left-side frame looks worked on (but then again, could be shadows). It needs a left-side mirror, turn signal, and taillight. But all told, not bad for $2900 (I hope!)...
