I have a Buell 91210-04Y tailbag for my 1125R and got caught in a rainstorm yesterday while parked. Fortunately all I had inside was my rain gear and gloves, because when I got on the bike I noticed the contents of the tailbag were pretty well SOAKED. I was surprised and checked the on-line literature, which says the bag has "weather resistant polyester construction with waterproof zippers". Lesson here for me: Don't put anything susceptible to getting wet inside the tailbag. But I am now nervous about the weather resistance of the Buell saddlebags I now own as well, since the literature for them does NOT even say "water resistant" as I would (and did) assume they would be. It mentions the waterproof zippers, though! Anybody have any insight or experience with gear staying dry (or getting wet) using the BUELL accessories? |

Use garbage disposal bags, they are much stronger than trash bags. |

I used to spray my tank bag and ruck sacks with a silicon based water-proof spray. After at least a couple of coats, almost anything is very water resistant. +1 on the liner suggestions. |

I too recently suffered from soaked contents in a tail bag. (Ruined a map and soaked a set of gloves, good thing I knew where i was...)I will be investing in some high tech trash or garbage disposal bags for the tail bag and saddle bags. I will try some of the silicone water repellent too. At least the tank bag comes with a water PROOF cover! |

"Water Resistant" only means it will not be affected by light rain, dew, mist, or Texas humidity. "Water Proof" means it will protect the contents from any water entry under normal atmospheric pressure. The distinction is a part of our consumer culture, and, most likely consumer law. |

I have the cortech bag setup on my XB and they came with rain covers. I also sprayed them with several coats of silicone and just to make sure things stay dry, I line the inside with a trash liner. I've ridden through several down pours and my stuff stayed dry. The cortech bags are also a lot roomier than the Buell bags. So it sounds like non-weatherproof bags are the norm and not an abnormality for Buell. I'll stock up on silicone spray and trash bags and zip them behind the advertised waterproof zippers!! Whew!! Am I glad the bags have THOSE!! |
