I recently purchased a 2000 Blast with 3000 miles on it. I have been riding it around for the last week, with absolutely no problems. Started fine for me every time I wanted it to until yesterday. I was out riding, and hit a bit of rain, not much. Well, I noticed that a severe thunderstorm was coming, so I got the bike home and in the garage where it sat for about 5 hours until the storm threat was gone. Well, when I went out to go fill it up with gas, it turned over, but wouldn't start up. The kill switch is not on, it doesn't have a kickstand link to starting it, and I am at a loss. After about four or five times of trying to start it, it just makes a loud clicking noise at me, and will not even turn over. Please help, I just got the bike recently and love riding around on it. By the way, I am new to working on bikes, and just know the basics, so please bear with me. I am just getting back into riding after about 15 years without a bike. |

Kold, Sounds like your battery headed south or your battery terminals are corroded. Pop the seat off and check the battery connection. Top it off with a cycle battery charger. Might also want to make sure you are getting around 14V going into the battery when the bike is running. If after charging the battery it goes dead again, the battery is probably bad. They only last about 3-4 years. Anything after that is a gift. |

I got it fixed. After recharging the battery, changing the plug, still wouldn't start. A friend of mine was helping me go over it and came across the carburator manifold coupler. It looked like it was secure on both ends, but I happened to put my hand on it and it wasn't even secured to the manifold. I tightened it back down, and the bike started first crank. Was just kind of crazy how it looked like it was connected, and was about to pay for a shop to do a diagnostics. I hear the coupler is about 7 to 8 bucks to get and easy to replace. So bike fixed and runnin great again. |

Kold--Your post is near and dear to my heart. In a prior post I explained that my carb boot was not tightned after I had my carb re-jetted causing the bike to fail to start. Also, the tip of my sparkplug had dislodged due to engine vibes stranding me out of town on a prior occasion. I have concluded that most Buell Blast problems have two things in common: first, they are usually simple and second, they are usually hard as hell to find. I put 5000 miles on my bike in the past 3 months. Once you kill all the little bugs, you will find that the Blast is really a simple and reliable bike. |
