Hello,
I sincerely appreciate this group - I've learned a lot about the Buell Blast. One question, however - everyone seems to concede that the rocker box gasket is a major issue, and mine leaks as expected. Everyone says that replacing it is somewhat easy, but I haven't been able to find a single definitive guide to actually doing it. I'm not a moron when it comes to mechanical work, but I also realize that there's probably an easier way to do some of this. I've looked at the repair manual - not the best ever.

Has anyone seen anything out there in the vast internet that gives a somewhat definitive description of how to break open the engine and replace the gasket?

Thanks,
-Kevin

I do not know about the Blast but my 2000 M2 was fairly easy. See if someone from here lives near you that can give you a bit of help.

The service manual is pretty good, however there are shortcuts.
Shoot me your phone number via PM and I'll fill you in.
I'm a bit short on time right now to type the whole thing out.

I figured it out - thanks everyone. I thought I had to drop the whole damn engine, which looked like a pain in the butt. Luckily I managed to get the upper motor-mount loosened up a bit, and could get the top cover off. It's a pain to get at some of the bolts, but a little time and patience works wonders.

Appreciate the offers for help!

Kevin,
Scrapping the old gasket off was fun wasn't it!

You've been there before I see... Razor, wire brush, cleaning solvents... got the job done eventually, but not fun at all.

Worst part is that, even though I'm confident it's fixed, there's still the burning oil smell from the residual and little drips of oil here and there as the last bits drip off the frame. I need to scrub it clean to give me peace of mind, or ride it to burn everything off.

Yup! Done way to many of the old ones with paper gaskets.
I let the bike warm up then hit it with Gunk engine cleaner. Let it sit for a few minutes then hose it down.
Works like a charm on oil and junk..
