left side rear wheel bearing keeps failing, on 3rd bearing, each bearing lasting less than 300 miles......
Right side double bearings are fine... any idea what could cause them to fail.....

John
Without more info a guess is all there is, maybe pictures of the wheel on and off the bike. Possible modified brake assembly, improperly installed brake assembly or missing spacer in between the bearings.
Good luck
Joe

Maybe the spacer sleeve that goes between the left and right side bearings is damaged or not the right length, perhaps being too short resulting in excessive side loading of the balls on the races, or it's not installed correctly? Are the bearings the correct type? Where are you getting them?

bearing come from Harley shop..
I'm double checking all, incl alignment, bike handed just fine until knocking from rear wheel, this bearing lasted close to 500 miles [guess improvement from last which only lasted 200]. Brakes, washers, spacers, all seem in order.....

To repeat what Sparky said, and perhaps clarify, the spacer in question is the one inside the wheel, between the bearings. If the axle was previously over torqued, this spacer could have been slightly crushed.

It might not even be noticeable to the naked eye.

A bent axle could also be a possibility.

If the binding is enough to cause the bearing to fail within a few hundred miles, I would think you would be able to feel an increase in resistance to spinning the wheel, as you torque down the axle nut(without the belt or brake caliper on).

I would think something had to have happened about 1400 miles ago to cause your repeating problem.

Perhaps a tire change?
Ok I'm done.

Tim, you are correct there was a tire change, but we can't find anything that damaged, crushed, etc. We aligned, measured, check and tripled checked, still no clue what could cause this...
