I have a 2000 S3T with 35K on it that's been pretty well behaved. But last week I raised the unlocked exterior latch on one of the cases and the latch came up, but it wouldn't open the two interior case latches. Seems as though the wire or whatever that opens the interior latches when the locking exterior latch is raised has broken. So now I can't open it, nor can I take the case off (because you mount it to the bike frame from the inside). Any suggestions? I really don't want to pry the thing apart. Thanks! |

Motorpsych, Are you sure the internal latches are not just hanging up? I sometimes have to squeeze the bags shut a little bit while lifting the latch to get them open. I'm actually going to try and adjust my latches later on today. |

I've read somewhere in the Knowledge Vault that the last resort involves drilling a small hole and sticking in a wire probe or something to that effect. My S3T bags are okay so far but I know some have had issues. SteveH |

I drilled the safety allens out that holds the lock assembly to get mine open IIRC. Joe |

Your latch tab probably broke. Mine did the same. You can drill out the allens like Joe suggested or drill a hole in the latch and get something in there to release the tab on the inner. Here's a pic of what's inside under you busted latch.
You need to be able to move the tab thats at the bottom in the pic. (Message edited by 5liter on June 10, 2008) |

Here's an old latch and a new latch.
You can see the difference. |

Hi, I am looking for the part-numbers of the screws used to mount the bags to the bike. Arghhh, I just don't know the right word for these things ... sorry for that. I have 2 sets of hardbags for my S3T, one from ~98 and one from 2000. These screws are different (or the mechanism is) and I am looking for the parts of the 2000 model. Maybe someone has a partbook and could copy the regarding page for me? Thanks for your help, Christian |

I hate to resurrect this thread but the same thing just happened to me and my '99 S3T. What was the final verdict, what was easiest and least intrusive? I need to open the bags and fix the latch, this is my Sport Tourer and we are n the season here. |

Nothing..... not even a story about how somebody told somebody else not to buy a S3T because the bags were a disaster? I guess the above posts do cover the need, I was just looking for an after action report. |

I ordered my new latch from Liberty H-D Buell in New Jersey. They were fast and dependable. I suppose any reputable dealer could order the part. Liberty told me that H-D no longer carries the item but had a link to the manufacturer. It was less than 30 bucks and easy to install. |

What's the link? I'd like to check them out. |

Oh, they didn't give me the link, they ordered it for me and dropped ship it directly to me. They need to stay in business to, so I don't begrudge a good dealer making a living, it's just the stealers out there who hate Buell but like our money. Chris in parts can hook you up straight away. |

Sent him a PM. I've dealt with them before the Buell shut down. |
