Ok Gentlemen, here it goes. I noticed oil leaking out of my front forks and with a lot of miles racked up decided to do one more step instead of just changing the oil. Using the manual everything was going seamless, no problems till about step8 on page 2-35. It says to "remove screw (22) (metirc) and washer (23)" It took a while, but I finally got the screw loose. Now the problem. as I am unscrewing it, the damper assembly is rotating. Not a problem I thought, I held on to the assembly and continued to rotate the screw with the allen wrench. After about 3 minutes of unscrewing I noticed it did not move at all, as in it seemed the screw was not coming out. SO the question, is there something inside that could have broke free? could it be the Lower Stop (10 on page 2-36)? I love riding my bike and his close to deployment I should have just changed the oil!!! I greatly appreciate any answers, Dad has rebuilt many forks over the past 50 years and I have done a few myself, but never ran into a problem like this! Thanks, Brian Cessna |

An electric or pneumatic impact gun usually makes quick work of this. It spins fast enough that the resistance of accelerating the mass of the damping rod lets the bolt spin free. With a ratchet, there isn't enough speed to break it free. A simple drill with the right attachment may be all that is required. Al |

Hey thanks Al. Thats exactly what we did, had to make up a socket and all, but it worked like a charm. We just got both forks done today, gotta head to work shortly so I hope to get her back on the road tommorrow! Brian. PS, thanks for the parts that made this possible! |
