Jason Somebody with experience will be along in the day light. I believe that a longer chain will be required. When you do this pictures and verbiage would be nice. Joe |

Hi there! I'm preparing myself for the replacement of the primary gearing on my XB12. I got the primary gearing from XB9, which has 34 teeth (instead of 38). This change will result in the acceleration, but the top speed will go down. The primary gearing ratio changes by about 10%. But to do that I need to resolve one strange problem: I've got no f***ing clue what hex wrench should I use for the primary cover bolts. I tried metric: 4mm is too small, 5mm too big. I bought a box of inch hex keys and none of them is good: 1/8" too small, 3/16 too big. I'm puzzled... |

can you replace the 35 tooth front sprocket on my 99 M2 to the 34 teeth XB9 and would that require a chain swap ??? |

We did the primary drive swap on my Uly yesterday. One thing I have not seen mentioned before is that we had to use a press to get the old primary sprocket off the rotor. Is this normal or was mine just tight? |

That's normal. When I did mine I cracked one of the magnets on the rotor trying to press the new engine sprocket on. I would recommend buying the rotor and sprocket assembly already together, PN 32493-02B, to anyone considering this mod unless they have a press or access to one. |

Looking at the '08 service manual, it look s like I need a sprocket and chain....new primary cover gasket would also be a good idea. What the workarounds for locking the drive so the main nut can be loosened without buy the "primary lock tool"? anything else? thank |

Tiberius - There are a bushing and seal on the shifter shaft, might as well replace them too. 2 gaskets for the inspection cover and the fill hole. |

Not sure about the 08, but the 07 manual recommends replacing the clutch circlip as well. |

Make sure that the dealer has supplied the 08 part for your bike as I am told the shaft is bigger on the 08 models and as such the 07 sprocket will not fit. |
