What is the usual cause for overcharging ? Voltage regulator ? Bad battery, stator ? I have a voltmeter intalled, and everything was OK for 20.000km. Now, I get a reading of overcharging on the voltmeter while riding. When the engine idles, voltage is OK. |

Vagelis I believe I would start with the voltage regulator. What voltage are you seeing above idle. Joe (Message edited by Bad_karma on March 21, 2008) |

I have a 2nd voltage regulator that I will install and see how it goes. For the first 5min of riding the voltage is OK. Then it overcharges. I switch off, it runs OK, but after 5 min the same problem. The reason I installed the voltmeter in the first place was that I had charging problems in the past. That time it was undercharging, due to bad connectors from the stator to the regulator. It has hard to find the problem, and I found the cause after installing a new regulator, only to have undercharging again. This time is overcharging....But it seems that the voltmeter was a good thing to add to the bike. I hope it is the regulator. Thanks Joe |

Vagelis I run a volt meter on my S3 because of a bad voltage regulator connector. I don't have the 3 phase system you have but I general see about 14.5 to 14.7 VDC at a cruise above 3000 rpm. Joe |
