Hi Guys, I have just brought a 2004 xb12r I purchased it privately and not from a dealer I am just getting acquainted with it and was wondering if someone could confirm for me if this is normal, when I turn on the key the guage needles flick around then back, then a red light(not the oil light)on the dash flashes on once and goes out and the red oil light comes on and stays on(all while the fuel pump is doing its thing) is this normal? apologies if this sounds stupid its my first Buell. Regards Tobycat1 |

Normal. Wait for the engine light (the red one that flashed) to go out and start the bike. The oil light should go out once the bike starts. And don't touch the throttle while starting the bike. |

Neville Congrats on your purchase. May I suggest you pickup a Service manual and parts list for your XB. Welcome to badweb, checkout Buells Down under also. Joe |

If you have an owner's manual, it would be very helpful to read through it.
See Dash Panel: Firebolt Models (XB9R shown). Observe instrument panel perform self-tests. If self-tests fail, see a Buell dealer. The needles will sweep the tachometer and speedometer. The check engine lamp (4) and the oil pressure signal lamp (5) will illuminate. from Buell's 2005 XB12R Online Owner's Manual See the BadWeB Knowledge Vault - Buell Motorcycle Owner's Manuals page for more links to Buell's current collection of online owner's manuals. |

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies,After one month of ownership things are going well however if I may have another moment of your time I have a couple of questions?. 1.How long do you warm up your bikes?I was fanatical about warming up my old EVO do XB's need the same care? 2.Fouled plugs,is this common? Thanks All regards Tobycat |

Yeah, let er warm up for at least 90 seconds or so to get the oil pressure up in the whole lube system. I was fouling plugs too; keep your hand off the throttle while it's warming up. Do you have an aftermarket pipe and/or a race ecm? |

What Cheddar says about warm up is good advice as a minimum if one is careful to take it easy for the first couple of miles. But I make it a rule of thumb to let mine warm up to the point where I cannot keep my finger (rule of thumb! ha ha) on the bottom fin of a cylinder. That's approx 150 deg F in about 3 min. Suppposedly that's enough heat to allow the cylinders to expand and clamp the base and head gaskets with sufficient force to preclude blowing gaskets if one gets frisky with the throttle early on. |

Hey guys just bought a 05 xb9r used just wondering, I had a 600 cbr and it was pretty fast I thought the 984cc buell would bring the front tire off the ground just hitting the throttle. Is it just my bike or is that just the way it is???? thanks. |

Smash, I ride an xb12r with pipe and ecm. It will not easily bring the wheel up either, the way I see it The fastest way around corners is on two wheels, and thats what these bikes are born to do.And thats the way Eric engineered them. Remember I said the way "I" see it. I am sure that the lightning line of Buells is more wheelie friendly for the stunt junkie in you, but I have not been in the saddle of one to prove it yet. (thats what the Buell stunt team rides) Hope this answered your question. |

nice to be a member here in West Michigan and appreciate all the information you put on your website. Although some of it is troubling. I just purchased an 08 xb12xt uly love the bike so far,but it seems to be there are major issues with some of your bikes both new and old, ie;fuel ,delivery, axle bearings, electrical, etc.Did I buy the wrong motorcycle? thanks for your help. |

Guzzi, I understand your concern, but you'll find that BadWeb deals with everything related to Buells, good and bad. So, if you wanted a bike that handles/corners like a champ, is easy to maintain yourself, has a ton of torque and is really different then you bought the right bike. Personally, on a side note I have not had a single problem with my '04 XB12r except for a problem (brake lever)I created myself, but even then I fixed it myself for $45. |
