There doesn't have to be any actual breakage or a history of any being broken. The one for the swingarm mount is about parts being out of tolerance, meaning the part was machined wrong and there is a potential weakness in the out-of-tolerance area. The Buell engineers are smart enough to use stress analysis to show where a part might fail if, say, a machined wall thickness might be too thin to handle its projected proof load. So they know what the design is capable of but, more to the point, they can predict the failure resulting from potential stress forces on an out-of-tolerance part, especially a highly loaded part like a swingarm, before a given lot of suspect bikes get into any customer's hands. |

The swingarm recall as I understood it was because the welds were not continuous there was a possibility of cracks. |
