hi, just recently picked up a 96 s1, engine stock. She has 15k on the clock. I get a little smoke out of the exhaust upon start up, if it sits for a few days...im thinking its valve seals. whats my best bang for the buck...have the lightning heads redone...go for t-storm heads ( do i need other work done if i go for the t-storm heads? ) and as im not mechanically inclined, ill have the work done somewhere near chicago. do you guys have some guestimates $$$ parts and labor, on what im looking at? any ideas appreciated, thanks dan (Message edited by reducati on January 29, 2008) |

XB heads are the current best bet but they require a custom front motor-mount (available from Badweb sponsors.) Aside from giving the best bang for the buck, you can use your current flat-top pistons. Thunderstorm heads don't require the custom mount but do require new, Thunderstorm pistons. (And give not-quite-as-good results.) Parts, including gaskets is probably a grand(?). Plus, what, a day's labour? |

Dan While you are at it slip on some 1250 jugs and pistons, upgraded rocker box gaskets, your choice of drop in cams, upgraded lifters, a HSR42, upgrade header(2.5")collecter and a Vance & Hines SS2R muffler. That with a stage one to the XB heads and you will have a noticeable improvement in performance. This should be streetable and enjoyable. Check out some of our sponsors.
