Hope I have this in the right section. Guess its 50/50 accessory and tech question. I need to add a 2 gal fuel cell to my Uly. Will be rear seat/rack area. Question is where should it be plumbed into the fuel system? Cell will be gravity so I would think it would be used to maintain main tank capacity. Main tank is vented and so is the cell. Not sure if fuel will spill out overflow of main tank. I think the main tank will only fill to the height of where the fuel cell line enters it. If anyone has added a cell to their Buell; I'd really appreciate advise. Thanks |

Most XBers plumb it into the gas tank drain plug. This way gravity can feed it from the Aux tank to the main tank, and the factory fuel pump can work it from there. Fuel will spill out the overflow only if you put too much in it. If you have a 2.0 gallon Aux. tank, wait till you see your gas light come on, then you can be confident your main tank will take the full 2.0 gallons without overflowing. The main tank will fill as high as the Aux. tank sits, NOT as high as the line entering it is. So, as long as the Aux tank is higher than the main tank, you can plumb it into the bottom of the main tank (drain plug) and it will still fill up just fine. More info from someone who has actually done it here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/252073.html#POST803539 Hope this helps! (Message edited by mikef5000 on January 17, 2008) |

Yeah! Just make sure you post up pictures when you done! And ride reports of your travels! And I'm still working on how to plumb it on my M2... Ok, fine, I guess I know how to plumb it, I'm just a cheap ass and won't buy the tank. |

Fuel Tank Drain All set to order up the parts from Tour Tank. All appears to be very easy for the auxillary fuel tank install. One major issue though. Tour tank sells NPT fittings. The drain plug on the uly is a 3/8" NF (National Fine) thread. That would be, I think, 24 threads per in. I can not find a 90 degree fitting 3/8" NF with a 3/8" barb anywhere in brass or stainless. I do see brass fittings on internet that say SAE. Not sure what thread that is. SAE could be 10, 12, 14 etc. threads per inch. Anyway thats the hold up. JEGS sells only NPT. Hydrolic sites aren't clear enough in fitting descriptions to risk ordering. Ideas? |

Thanks Bad karma. Just called Summit. They don't have. They never carried anything like that. NF (national fine thread)...Wow! Up against the wall here on this. Might just go to a machine shop and have the little bugger made. By the way; information. If you see NPTF for any fittings, its not national pipe thread fine. The F designates "fuel". |
