got the old ones out no problem, the 5 ti bolts weighed 96gm and the 5 steel ones where 178gm,weight saved 82gm,that and the braided brake hose, carbon hugger, braking wave rear disk,ti belt adjusting bolts,ti caliper bolt and ti rear axle nut means the rear end is just over a kilo lighter. |

I've been looking at some Ti bolts, but the price is so much. I know it's unsprung weight, and all, but $125 for 3 ounces savings is getting pretty steep. My Goodridge stainless brake line seemed about the same or even slightly heavier, I didn't weight it though. Can you calculate your Pounds spent per kilo saved? I'm guesstimating about $325 per pound saved, translated into 'American'. |

pounds per kilo saved,i wouldnt dare try to total it all up,the disc was about £80 and saved 438g,the braided hose was about £30 and saved 100g,the carbon hugger was about £110 and saved 370g,all in all with what i have done to the bike i have removed 8600g but added 3500g,steering damper, oil cooler plus sandwich plate, tacho, magnox oil filter magnet,c/f chin spoiler and a ast shock thats 700g heavier than stock, total weight saved so far is 5100g,claimed dry weight is 197.3kg,i would like to get it half way between that and a xb12 claimed dry weight so every gram saved gets me closer to that goal. |

I'm just giving you a hard time... I know I've spent WAY too much on my bike, probably equal to my purchase price of the used bike. Every time I think about buying a Titanium shock spring ($400) or some such, I think along the lines of: maybe just remove the tach and save the same amount of weight. Still have on passenger footpegs, for example, even though I've yet to carry a passenger. My Corbin seat weighs a whole lot more than the stock seat, too. Ti bits isn't just buying weight savings, to me, it's equally buying "coolness". My father is a retired lathe operator / machinist from the aerospace industry, he used to come home with little leftover bits and the odd reject parts and bolts made from magnesium, and Ti, and even some top-secret stuff where they were supposed to turn in the shavings back to the government. So, I've since been attracted to things machined out of steel, aluminum, and exotic metals. I love guns (1911s) and simple motorcycles both, for these aspects. A lot to do with why plastic-faired bikes, and Glocks, just don't do anything for me. Now, at the IMS motorcycle show, BrakeTech had their new ceramic brake discs, these were beyond cool, I would have bought them on the spot, but they don't make them for M2s. He had his Ducati Brembo drilled disc along for comparison, the ceramic was virtually weightless by comparison. He said it's way better material than carbon for braking. Very impressive. |

ceramic disks, doh, have swapped all the metric bolts to ti,also bought a tie bar for a xb,removed the top one, found the bolts to large, came up with some metric ones that fitted, took off the top motor mount, sliced off the inverted "U" section, cut some ally spacers for the bolts, found a top hat washer that fitted the bolt hole in the frame, bolted up the tie bar, lined it all up,marked drilled and tapped a hole on the top mount, and tightend it all down, replaced the steel bolts with ti ones, saved 330g.swap the horn for an xb one save 100g.i took off the choke cable bracket, modified a fireblade choke cable to fit my hsr42,made a bracket from some pre bent ti plate someone gave me and mounted it on the clutch lever pivot bolt, looks like a brake lever adjuster on a motogp bike, made a front pulley lock plate from the ti plate saved 30g,been thinking of when my battery dies putting in one from a xb,there about 1400g lighter ? |

I guess the question is do you notice the weight difference when you are riding? |

I can't speak for Stephen but when I put the stock muffler back on replacing the V&H that was too loud for my old ears, I couldn't tell the difference. Weight difference is like 10 pounds. Changed to the Corbin seat, weighs probably 10 pounds more than the Select seat. Added chin fairing, weighs more than none. Can't tell the difference. Adjusted the shock compression damping, and rebound damping. WHOA!, what a difference. |

thats mass centralisation for you,on a bike with under seat cans it would be more noticable when swapped for race ones. 1kg from the swingarm/rear wheel and 1.7kg off the top of the forks(have changed the bars, headlight, fly screen, indicators and mirrors for lighter items)the bike changes direction just a little bit easier |
