Easy to drop the oil pump and look up at that gear. It'd be on my short list. 15k miles is about right for a really bad one. Though I would think if that gear was failing, it would make only very expensive noises for a very short period of time... |

Crunching noise coming from the lower end may warrant checking the clutch throwout bearing. But if clutch action and shifting is working well, that is not likely an issue. It's too simple to remove the primary cover and take a look at that area, ditto for the rocker-box covers, to put up with ongoing frightening noises. As always, when looking for the source of any newly developing issue(s), it's not imprudent to consider possible side effects from the last thing that was done to the engine. Neighbors may be placated if you can cover the bike neatly when leaving it sit dismantled in driveway. Good luck and let us know what the final prognosis reveals. |

Mr. D. Peter (Interex), Would you mind if I moved your thread here to the Knowledge Vault - Troubleshooting section? Thanks. (Message edited by blake on November 09, 2007) |

I got off the phone with Buell customer service... They will be unable to help me in any way... Which is perfectly understandable. I am not sure what I am going to do at this point... I am going to try to take a nap Blake, Absolutely, sorry for starting it in the wrong place in the first place. |

I'm only going to add what I know. My 2003 XB9r makes all kinds of noises, but nothing that causes alarm on my part. The headers are never supposed to glow red (unless you're racing, right Slaughter?). I do race ( HayWire Racing) and if the header is glowing EVER you are running too rich. It glows due to the UNBURNED fuel in the exhaust. That means TOO MUCH fuel in the chamber during ignition. With glowing headers, first place I would go is the fuel mapping. Whether it be stock control module or an aftermarket one. Then I would look into that sprocket nut, then I would go to the valve guides and seals. |

My M2, with stock jetting, would give a faint glow off the headers if it was left idling and stationary for a while. Never checked the 9sx in pitch darkness after a hard ride or long idle. |
