I'm new here so I apologize if this has already been covered. If I store my Fuel tank in a climate controlled , dry location for the winter, is it still necessary to keep it full or is it okay to drain it? 2000 s3t.
Thanks

I drain mine every winter. I have an 00 M2 so I can either remove the fuel line and drain into a gas can or siphon it out. Since you have F.I. you'll probably have to siphon it.

Here's a couple of tips
1) after you get 99.9% of the gas out the rest can evaporate to get a dry tank.
2) the tank collar will dry out and shrink. If you leave the gas cap on it will create a death grip on the collar. I egged out the plastic part of my gas cap trying to get it off. If it happens to you remove the whole collar and aluminum bezel. The collar is pretty cheap to replace if need be.
3) I have found that rubbing some engine oil on the collar and then NOT clamping the gas cap down makes it easy to remove in the spring
4) If it gets tight on the cap but you can still remove the cap in the spring, then fill the tank and go riding. The gas will re-swell the collar and all will be good again.

Thanks for the help, especially the info on the collar. Spring sure seems a long ways away.

There is a lube that is used on O ring seals of saltwater pool filters to stop the seal from drying up.

Perhaps this is an option?

Another question. Are special clamps needed on E.F.I. fuel line connections or will a regular "worm gear" type hose clamp work okay? Thanks.

Worm clamps work fine. That's what I have on mine.

It's actually pretty warm this weekend. The snow is taking a real beating, The piles at the end of the driveway are down to a couple of feet tall. Not quite time to put the bike back together yet though.

If you need lube on rubber use a dollop of SIL-Glide available at your nearest hardware shop. Been using it for years.
