It finally happened as anyone who rides a motorcycle will tell you. Your going to fall. Ive had a few close encounters with people pulling out in front of me but was fine and so was the bike. Not so much this time. I was just heading home from a friends when I notice a car flying behind me coming up fast. I swerved out of the way and being in an unfamiliar subdivision into some wet grass. The driver passed and I pulled back on picked up speed around a turn and then with an extreme quickness my S3 started to lowside. I caught it and was sure I had it then she flicked and highsided throwing me to the ground... very hard. Broke the fairing, smacked the tank, ripped off turn signals, shifter and clutch lever. Broke my radius in my left arm. Six screws and a metal plate to put that back together. Bikes fine now though just got done putting her back together. Still gonna be about 2-3 more weeks before I can ride again. Lesson learned. |

I'm glad you're ok. High sides can end much worse than that. I'm also glad you're getting back on the horse so to speak. Good job. |

Just had my first spill and it was a high side as well. Know how you feel, although I wasn't hurt as bad. I put some pics up on the Uly board. Glad you're on the mend. |

Broke my radius in my left arm. Six screws and a metal plate to put that back together. Ouch! We should start a highside club... a club no one in their right mind would want to join. So... did you do the swan dive over the bars or get catapaulted off the side? The swan dive seems to create less shoulder injuries and more broken ribs and neck injuries. I hate that I know that.... |

Justin - Glad you are ok - and yes again these bikes prove to be very rugged. I did the cartwheel over the bars while the bike cartwheeled down the street right behind me during (or rather immediately after) my highside. Bent handlebars, bent clutch lever, no signals or mirrors left, gouge taken out of the seat and my helmet, and a broken ankle. Rode the bike home 60 miles, ran like a top, straight as an arrow, but it was hard as hell to shift with the bent lever and broken ankle, especially after the shock wore off and the real pain started to set in...... I second the motion for a "highsiders' club - maybe a subfolder under the "Crashes and Mishaps" topic for us idiots. |

I also broke my left ankle in the highside I had over the bars (as well as some ribs and a sprained neck). I also rode my bike back home before going to the hospital. The bike was still roadworthy, but looked really bad. Not including the new paint job, it only cost about $100 to get everything replaced (handlebars, shifter, grip, flyscreen, and switch gear housing. Not my finest moment. |

I'm a swan diver as well. Landed on my face and cranked my neck pretty good, then flipped over on my back and did the street luge down the road, slid into a ditch and broke the ankles. All this while the bike is following/pushing me down the road. The way I landed, if I were not wearing a full face, I wouldn't have a face left. It is amazing how clear your thoughts can be in a situation like that as your brain speeds up. |
