Was wondering what really is different between the two models. Had read an old review of the SL and it said there is a 1.5 inch lower seat height made by some suspension differences?? Can anyone shed some light on this? Can the SL be made the same height by tweaking?? I wonder if 1.5 inches will really be noticed unless one is a bit vertically challenged....

The height difference between the standard s and the sl/scg is larger than it sounds when you sit on the bike.

The forks, shock, and kickstand are all shorter than the standard parts. WHen you give up that much suspension travel
you end up with a bike that feels a little harsher on the bigger bumps because it cannot absorb the hit.

On the good side if you have an scg/sl it is usually easy to find someone with a standard s or r that will swap the parts
with you to convert your bike to an s and theirs to a low version. I know because I'm one of the people that has made
the swap on my firebolt.

If you have a good deal lined up on an SL and are worried you won't be happy with it don't worry. It is a super easy
fix that takes a total of 2 hours (tops) in the garage to make the change if you have parts in hand.

I just bought a nice used '03 XB9SL and I will probably convert it to a standard model because I am over 6' tall. Specifically, other than the seat and side stand, what components must be swapped out for the conversion? Thanks,
Dan

With a little more exploring, I think I found the answer from Sweatmark:
forks
lower triple clamp
Low/cg shock

I think I'll start with a standard seat and leave the suspension alone to see how that works. Dan
