Can anyone tell me the hex size needed to remove the front & rear axles/wheels? I need to take of both wheels, so need to know what size hex key to buy on the way home and I dont have the manual on me. Are there any other tools I need? |

I'm not sure of the exact size, but there is a special tool (a gold partitioned hex bar about 1.5" long) included in the tool pouch. Have you lost yours? Hex |

This is for the XB correct? I don't have my digital camera here, but the axle tool in my tool pouch (as measured with a tape measure) is a gold hollow hex bar stock 1 inch long and 7/8 inch across the flats (it also has a circlip in the center to prevent the tool from inserting too far into the axles). You will need some standard Allen wrenches to loosen the pinch bolt (rear) and pinch bolts (front). The axle "nut" special tool goes in the hex hole on the end of each hollow axle, then you can loosen the axle with the protruding "nut" with a Crescent wrench. The front axle is left hand thread, rear is right hand thread. The rear axle is backed out 20 full turns which allows the axle to loosen the drive belt because the axle is stepped (ingenious). For reassembly, I greased both axles with BelRay waterproof (because I was getting corrosion on the shafts), and I used AntiSeize on the threads. Hope this helps, Hex |
