I was quoted 1-3 hours shop rate for a TPS reset. The service manager said that by the time they got the diagnostic equipment together and did the reset that it would be at least an hour, and then went on to say how the idle cable would most likely need replaced on a bike with 6800 miles. He said to plan on 3 hours. With that said, this is a 15 minute simple job (if you have the ability to follow simple instructions) that no shop should charge more than a 1/2 hour labor. These guys are either trying to rip people off or they don't want to work on Buells. |

Wacky - that is pathetic. I bought the VDSTS software from American Sport Bike - takes maybe 30 minutes. Oh - and that 30 minutes includes copious amounts of beer before and during. Find another dealer. |

Hey Tim, I did find another dealer. I took it to Lancaster HD/Buell in Pennsylvania. I'd talked to them a bit before I took it up there and they're true enthusiasts. The service manager owns 6 Buells (5 tubers & 1 XB) and he rode one to work that day. They charged $24 to do the reset and spent a bunch of extra time to help me with an unrelated problem. They went out of their way to help and they treated me far better than the Harley dude that came in and wanted his bike run on the dyno . I will always take my bike to Lancaster HD/Buell for any work I can't do myself and I'll recommend them to everyone. |
