I brought my x1 to my local shop the other day for diagnosis. They said the problem most likely will be a bent pushrod, but it could be the rocker arm binding(excessive wear at valve tip) or valve hitting rocker box(too much wear at valve seat). I only had enough $$ for an hour of diagnosis, to still be able to afford to fix it. When I changed the lifters last month, I noticed a divot on the bottom of the rocker covers above one of the rocker arms. I used a dremel tool to grind away until the divot was gone. Is it possible/probable that when the rocker arms hit the cover, it may have slightly bent the pushrod? When the top cover is off, I don't really hear the tapping...but it sounds like air is escaping from somewhere. When the cover is on could this air sound more like a tick? |

These are a couple of pics I took of the rear cylinder. In the close-up, you can see the crack in the aluminum. Will or can this cause noise? Any help will be much appreciated!

Robert Sounds like the rocker arm is hitting the valve cover. This is a common problem with a high lift cam. Possible the push rod is bent. Pull it and check it on a flat surface. Joe |

I did find some divots on the bottom of the valve cover. Is there a thicker gasket or any other way to address this issue? |

Robert I just clearanced my cover with a grinder. If you do not have the new gaskets, I would think they are thicker than the stock paper gaskets. The crack shouldn't case a problem until it starts to leak. Joe |

I just was not sure if the crack could cause the rocker arm to tweak slightly. I smoothed the divots on the cover and I am pretty sure that I have clearance now, but the same noise...it is getting very frustrating. Thanks for the input! |
