For a fully adjustable preload system, my Buell's rear preload gives me terrible resistance when trying to turn the "steps" with the spanner.

I've tried making the adjustment with the bike on the sidestand, with the rear wheel elevated on a scissor jack (so it would be unsprung), and while depressing and releasing the tail end of the bike.

I bought my XB used and the preload was loaded to 7, too high for my tastes as I'd like to experiment with my suspension, and it seems like it's impossible to change.

Has anyone been through this particular problem or am I missing something about adjusting this damned step-system?

Mine is also hard to adjust sometimes. I lightly spray the preload collar with WD 40 with good results. I have even used water and that worked also.
