I have a 2000 buell m2,like the seat, have footpegs raised already and I want to have custom lowering link made and raise the forks an amount equal to new link drop in rear so as not to affect steering angle-anyone now how far I can go without problems?never carry a passenger, and I weigh about 230 lbs?Any input appreciated. |

The proper way would be to lower the forks internally using stiffer springs with a re-valve. Lowering the same as the rear or up to about 5mm more is the farthest you'd want to go. The problem with raising the forks is that with the amount of available suspension travel the front shock mount and muffler can drag dangerously, and the front tire will contact the front tie bar mount under full compression. In the very least you'd want to lower it by limiting the fork extension with a top out spacer. |

If I remember correctly, you can't raise the forks too much on an M2 without interference. You might be able to raise them maybe 1/4" - 3/8" before the fork caps hit the handlebar. |

"In the very least you'd want to lower it by limiting the fork extension with a top out spacer." This sounds reasonable, but I've never had an M2 fork apart to check... but I remember from my dirtbike days that it wasn't hard to increase fork travel by making your own spacer to decrease tube engagment. I noticed back then, you could easily do the exact opposite: you could increase engagment depending on where you placed the spacer. This idea came from my still-born project to turn my old RM125 motocrosser into a roadracer back in 1977. |

Don`t have stock muffler, have rather obnoxious "Baddogs",but I like them anyway.Raising the forks 5mm will not cause any wheel/fork brace conflict,so,following this I can drop the rear proportionaly?Have to look into "tube engagement" thing too.Maybe a custom fork brace also....I wish there was a way to max out the suspension to see what conflicts;what, two come-alongs(sp?)? |
