are the combustion chambers on the 2005 XL 1200 ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBERS ON THE 2005 XB12. IF NOT I THINK I CAN JUST GET THE XB PISTONS TO MAKE THIS WORK |

You need to have the right combination of heads and pistons or you actually loose horsepower and torque. What year is your M2? If it's 98 or up you'll have Thunderstorm heads which are still about the best bang for your bucks. Call Nallin [www.nrhsperformance.com]and find out what pistons you need. I'm fairly certain that if you run XB12 pistons you'll need to run the XB12 heads. Nallin has them for sale too for a small fee. By the way you'll need to run some hotter cams to get the best result from this piston/head combo and a better exhaust would also be in order. KK |

KD, He said that his M2 is without its top end, meaning no heads. I think he's most interested in getting the bike running. The 1998 M2 Cyclone had Lightning heads; the M2 got the Thunderstorm heads in 1999. |

To answer your question, the heads are identical in combustion chamber, so yes the XB12 pistons will work perfectly for you. The XL heads have holes in the right side for the Sportster crankcase breather circuit(s). You'll need to plug those and get a set of XB rockerbox covers to provide for the crankcase breather circuit(s). |

thank you blake you answered my question. i am using the XL HEADS because i want to retain the way it breathes and i dont wish to put xb rocker boxes on it. since the sportster heads and xb heads are the same i figured the xb pistons would work perfectly and i would retain the 10 to 1 compression ratio. |

The stock rockerboxes will work with those heads. No need to upgrade. The breather passages are the same. |
