Well I was removing the oil filter, and the double nipple came out with it. While I was reinstalling the nipple I accidently hit my lower fairing and I see this spring with what looks like a mushroom shaped rubber stopper along with it bounce off my pipe and onto the floor. I'm assuming it came out of the oil nipple hole in the case. All I really need to know is which way the rubber stopper goes? Up with the spring down on top of the nipple , or down with the spring going first, and the rubber stopper on top of the nipple? Any help out there?

You've probably gotten this figured out already, but I see in the service manual that the spring goes in the engine first. The cylindrical end of the check valve fits up into the spring, leaving the rounded end of the check valve pointing down, to seal against the filter adapter. Hope this helps.
