Help --
I bought a Garmin Zumo 550 to aid with a long ride through Europe and am trying to figure out the best way to mount it. The instructions aren't a huge help. Any advice/recommendations?

Maximum.

He did it and it is a stellar installation. If I get a new Buell, I'm going to duplicate his entire set-up from heat controllers, Zumo and lighting.

Someone will perhaps help by posting a link to the report he did when he installed it.

Here is the link to the Maximum install Court mentions:

Whata...,

Welcome to the BadWeb, you're going to love it here when you figure out how much info there is and how easy it is to find it.

Virtually anything and everything you would ever want to know about doing anything to any Buell.

I found that link from the Search topic by searing the Big, Bad & Dirty section for the words "zumo 550". There is tons of more info there on mounting zumo 550's. Do the search for zumo 550 on the entire board to see a bunch more, some of it is specifically about XB 's too.

The Uly and XB Board guys don't always use the Knowldege Vault, that is why that info is there and not in the appropriate section of the KV.

Did you get the motorcycle mounting kit that is supposed to come with that? If so, that is a RAM Mounts part and there should be instructions on mounting in the box.

If you did not get that stuff, here is how it looks, how it works, and how to install it:

I'm thinking of the ZUMO update on my XB12r also. From less than a weeks worth of riding, the Zumo and Passport will need to be mounted on the top triple clamp. I was thinking about a RAM ball or two and one of the short arms. All three come with the Zumo.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to lay out some parts and see if I can get everything to fit and, I can still see the dash.

I hear that Starcom has a headset that will plug directly into the Zumo. ( http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?S creen=PROD&Product_Code=SH-550&Category_Code=STAR1 ) I feel this is a reasonable option. The only other thing I'm trying to work in is my radar detector.

As far as lighting, near term I'll add some PIAA 1100X. Brackets are yet to be developed. Long term I'm looking at updating the headlights to the 90mm Hella lamps with H-9 bulbs. I wish I could go HID but the $'s are over 10x the conventional bulbs.

Oh BTW, I have already added some real bright LED rear turn signals, 2-way Oberon LED signals are coming along with a Kisan Tailblazar and a Kisan integrated license plate (LED brake light and LED sequential turn signals) Never hurts to let someone know you are there and what your intentions are

Her's the route I am going . . . assuming I can swing a bike. . . Steve has done this slick as can be. . I'm going to go the copy-cat route and try to emulate his set-up.

Cool. . . or what?

On the Firebolt I found the empty screw boss on the clutch and brake lever brackets to be the best spot for mounting a ram mount to. Unlike the Uly the Firebolts have no handle bar length to attach to.

Do a search for "Ram Mounts" and you will see some photos

I went to bar end mirrors, then used the mirror hole as a mounting point for the Garmin Quest, it's working very well.

Does that mount above block any idiot lights?
