I keep breaking wires near the connectors on the M2 tail light. I've got some LED lights crimp/spliced into the wires that may be aggravating the situation. I'm about to tear into it, might have to rebuild the light housing itself, don't know yet, and too tight to do much inside the tailsection with the light installed. Grumble, grumble, grumble. Looking for suggestions of what others have done. I'm thinking of getting rid of the 90° connectors and going to straight style crimp-ons. Might even rig up some sort of strain relief to keep the flexing of the wires from breaking them off at the connector. (Or maybe I'll just fill the tail section with potting compound to keep the wires from bouncing around.) Noticed the main tail light was out yesterday, but since the LEDs were working I didn't worry about it too much, but decided not to ride it this morning until I get it fixed (rant and rave and moan and groan wire broke didn't ride and other bike buried behind other stuff and a project or two, grumble grumble grumble and the truck sucks gas by the gallons.) Maybe I'll post a pic when I'm done if it doesn't look too nasty or ugly. Thanks for any comments, post any suggestions, and send any links to a wireless solution for tail lights (maybe I can splice this thread into my other one about computers and going wireless and mobile). Allow extra wire and solder all connections. Then use shrink wrap on the connections. This will help on vibration / moisture and any future shorts or opens. Just my 2 cents worth. |
