If you disconnect the battery the trip resets. So, in you case, that probably means that the battery voltage is dropping severely or cutting out when starting. If it is cranking normally and keeping the batter charged up okay, I'd look for a weak or corroded connection. Maybe in the harness at that connector that goes up to the tach and speedo. I had some issues with a little corrosion in that connector (up under the front of the tank, behind the steering head) on my M2 when I first got it. I took that apart and worked all the contacts over with a fine brass bristled brush and that took care of it. I also put some dielectic compound on the contacts before I put them back together. my tripmeter reset each time i turned off the ignition. then it would work normally again until i turned it off, and then back to zero when turned back on. it was not ALWAYS at zero like you say yours is. if that is not really what you meant, read on: screwin' around with some rear auxiliary lights with the ignition on, i blew the fuse a couple of times(slow learner). i had no spares, so i ended up using the fuse that (unknown to me) supplies power to the trip meter when the ignition is turned off. i didn't even think about the possibility, as the odometer was not similarly affected. so.................... i ran a search for tripmeter reset in old school buell....got my answer. the badweb is tits !!! check the fuse block,dude......good luck. |
