I was on my way home yesterday when the bike died on the freeway. When I pulled off and tried to restart it, there was a clanking noise and white smoke came out of the exhaust with a smell of oil. It sounded pretty terminal and $$EXPENSIVE$$. Any idea how much the repair on something like this is going to cost? |

How much are those S&S Sporty Wedge motors? Worst case is a new engine (which granted, could be a ton of money, but could lead to a heck of a fun resulting bike). |

Have you found out the problem yet? Just guessing I would say a dropped valve and now also a bad piston and head. I am curious. Please keep the thread updated. |

Marco If this where a S I would be looking at the rear cyclinder/piston. Joe |

Anyone know of a reliable mechanic that "freelances" outside of a Harley Dealer in the Phoenix area? |

Get a bright flashlight or gun bore light and take a peak into the heads through the sparkplug holes. If it's a serious top end issue you'll probably see it right away. Rebuilds are usually not bad so long as the rods, bottom end bearings, and cases are ok. |

Dropping the oil pump and looking up into the cam cavity is also another "easy" way to peek at an area with a high potential for problems. |
