I figured I would put my install pictures here where they belong, and hopefully others can show theirs too. I purchased a hole new mounting bracket and got a dfx file from Mark (srlorg) for a plate to adapt the lights to. I had a machinist friend of mine make the plate for me out of 3/16" aluminum. Roger checked to make sure the lights would be centered and modified the plate so it picked up the two outside holes on the plastic base bracket to attach the plate to it.
The two upper-outside adjuster screws have to be cut down as much as possible for fairing clearance, so these ended up being my fixed pivot point for adjustment. One more lower center screw was used to fix the plate onto the plastic bracket and a small spacer is required between the two pieces to keep the plastic from flexing so you can tighten it correctly.
The adjusters are in the front so it was relatively easy to get the lights aligned using the inside screws. The lower outside ears of the lights were cut off for clearance from the fairing.

As near as I can measure the Hellas stick out the same as the stock lights did, but since they are wider and flatter they give the illusion they protrude more.
The finished product -

Excellent post - Bertman. I am converting my lightning to a lightning-bolt (with XB12R front-end. I purchased all the "R" hardware for the project, including the oem headlights. After reading all the hubbub about the factory lights I am considering switching over to the hella's right from the get-go. What are your thoughts and would you be willing to send me a pdf of your bracket? Thanks. |

I am sold on this conversion. But I come from the "there is nothing stock that can't be improved on" school. I can send you a copy of the original pdf file, but I do not have the one my friend finalized. I have asked Roger to get me a quote on making maybe 10 or 20 of the brackets for guys that want them, so it just depends on how little amount of material he can buy and at what price. |

Bertman great excution of the farkle! The DXF file would be very handy instead of reinventing. I would appreciate the DXF and the PDF file. Did you see these bad boys: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/50mm_modules.asp or the 90mm in HID . How much did you have to modify the fairing? I would go for one of those brackets. Thx Neil S. Did anyone ever get copies of the PDF file for the light bracket. I just joined the Buell family, and the lighting is about the only gripe I have with my '03 9R.} |

No brackets, sorry guys. The machine run just never happened. I am hoping that Steve mackay is able to come up with a better and complete bracket (not just an adapter) because those lights are well worth it. |
