Just wondering, my bike will smoke for a few seconds when started after a quick shutoff. I've noticed the valvetrain noise has increased with a defined tap. It's only got 6600 miles. I just bought it from a guy who wrecked it. He has all service paper work where the dealer did a service and eval. I'm thinking it's the valve seals, but it smells more like fuel.(you know the "choke stuck smell). The oil level is fine and fuel milage is fine. Any ideas? |

Smoke out the exhaust, right? What color smoke? If it's white or bluish white, that's excess oil burning and an indication of a problem. If it's black, that's extra rich fuel creating clouds of carbon. This is normal and is most often observed at the first few seconds of firing. The XB's exhaust will strongly smell like fuel upon startup when cold, at least mine does, because of the fuel programming. When the engine's hot, it generally does not smell "fuelish" upon startup. |
