I mentioned this problem here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/280808.html?1180314031 I have a new-to-me '01 X1 and was lamenting the harsh ride after demoing an XB. On the other thread they said, "check your susp. settings," which was encouraging. But the compression adj. screw on the rear (it's the later Showa, I think--the book says 15.2-15.5 eye-to-eye with me on it) would not turn either way. I convinced it to, though, gently of course. Now it turns freely in both directions. It never gets to a stop. The head also popped out of the body about 1/8-in. You can push it back in under what feels like fluid pressure, and it slowly pushes back out. Does anybody know anything about what's inside these shocks? Should I try to take it apart? Is it safe to ride? Can I rebuild it? I really don't want to replace it, but if I have to, what with? The non-adjustable Works from American Sport Bike looks like the cheapest one out there. Is it any good? Is the adjustable model worth the extra money (it won't ever see a racetrack as long as I own it)? What about buying a used stock shock? Do they degrade with time? Whew! That's a lot of questions. Thanks. |
