So everytime i turn on the ignition the fuse for my headlight blows and i don't understand why. It's done this before but has fixed it's self. Harley say's they would have to trace the wires, which really means $100-$200 of my dollars for then to do something stupid, and more than likely screw something else up. I try and learn as much as possible about my bike but electrical is not my thing. So why does it blow when the ignition goes on. It just started it last night. So any clues????? thanks |

You have a short circuit somewhere in the headlight wiring. If you have an ohm meter, you should be able to trace it in short order. |

it fixed it's self last night and then on the way home it popped again, and would not stop popping the fuse. So a long ride home in the dark. I've went through most of the wiring and can't seem to find any breaks or problems in the wires. Not sure where to look at this point. |

is there a better headlight set up that i could go to, I have a 97' S1 Lightning. I don't really like the look of the Giant Eye, but havn't found anything better. Let me know, thanks |

If a '97 S1 is the same as a '96, the lights' fuse wiring goes to the headlight switch on the handlebar and the license plate light. Does the bike have the stock rear fender mounted license plate or an aftermarket license plate mount under the tail light? If the latter, I would start by looking for a problem with the license plate light wiring from the license plate bulb back to where its wire joins the main harness. It could be something as simple as uninsulated bulb contacts touching a ground point causing a short. Regarding the look of the headlight itself, it's classic retro, man. Retro is in! Besides, that's one of the better headlight designs around. Some BMW models at the time used the exact same type, I've heard. |

If you use an OHM meter make sure you unhook the batt. or you will fry the ohmmeter. |

You really need someone that can read your elect. diagram and use an ohmmeter. Also try wiggling the wires as you do this and as you watch the meter. It is a short of the hot wire to a ground. |

got it fixed thanks for the help, the blue wire from the fuse box to the clip for the harness had at some point been pinched from the vibration and the zip ties that hold everything. Looped the wire around and bingo no more problem. thanks again for all your help. |
