I have 200 miles on my new rear pilot power 2ct. I also have a quarter inch gash on the crown of the tire. (exactly 12 o'clock position) Is there any chance that I can salvage this $180 piece of rubber? I'm kind of strapped right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I share your pain if the tyre is actually punctured. Here in England, tyres have to be repaired to BSAU159f which advises against any kind of repair to Z-rated motorcycle tyres, so basically your tyre would be toast. FWIW the rubber on my previous 2CT was damaged when I hit something in the road, but it wore off after a few hundred miles with no ill-effects. |

If the gash has punctured the tyre too, even if the gash goes down to a small pluggable size hole, plugging or any repair is absolutely out of the question. A repair of any kind within a gash cannot be relied upon. Rocket |

I absolutely would not run a tube in a tubeless tire. It would work as well as a tube did in the old days, and that's the problem. Sometimes, a tube doesn't deflate slowly, it'll deflate all at once. I had a front tube go flat on me once back in the 70's - it was terrifying getting the bike slowed down from speed. Just for that reason alone, I would never use a tube (again). |
