my brake light is working, on both front and rear brake levers. trouble is, the rear brake lever only throws the brake light on when the lever is right at the end of its travel. I've scoured the service manual, and done a quick peek thru the topics here, but can't find anywhere that tells me how to "adjust" the rear brake switch (or even if it can be adjusted..). essentially, I'd like for the brake light to come on at the lightest touch of the rear brake lever...not at the end of its travel. the brake lever itself is currently adjusted and set as per the manual. any ideas? thanks! | ||

Sounds like a faulty switch. The rear brake switch depends on hydraulic pressure to close the contacts not the throw of the lever. So, chances are, if it can be demonstrated that there is sufficient pressure to activate the brakes but the light is not coming on until more pressure is applied, that could indicate that the contacts are slightly dirty and need more pressure to force them to "make" electrical contact. Or, it could be that the spring in the switch mechanism is slightly stronger than the threshold pressure needed to activate the brakes. In this case there is nothing really wrong and it would be the dealer's call whether to replace the switch or not. These switches can go bad (wear out with miles). I replaced mine at around 40k miles, just because. | ||
