My bike has around 2300 miles on it. And early in the fall the plugs fouled. So I got em replaced under warranty. So I rode for the rest of the fall and then put the bike away in late December. I went to start it in the beginning of March and the plugs fouled again. So... my question is: does using a lower octane fuel (87) have anything to do with the plugs fouling. I really had no idea I was supposed to use Premium and now have about half a tank of 87 still in the bike. I just replaced the plugs myself (helluva job btw) and have yet to start it... Should I drain the tank? Should I just roll with it? I have since learned to not ever give it gas when its starting; which I won't but man... if I have to change those plugs again I am gonna freak. Thanks for any help... |

First, please read your entire owner's manual, carefully. The 87 octane is unlikely to be responsible for your fouled plugs. Avoiding blipping the throttle when cold will most likely solve your plug fouling issue. |

I had the same problem on a new 12R with 2 miles on it. A couple things that helped after replacing the plugs, I pulled out all the old gas(2 month old 91 un-oxy.) and replaced with fresh 91. After which I spent three beers with a hairdryer heating up the jugs. Without touching the throttle she fired right up. |

I was thinking of draining the gas anyway being that its a bit old and under octane. However, in order to drain the gas it says to run it dry and then follow the steps to drain the gas tank; all in the name of releasing any pressurized gas in the lines. Since the whole point of draining the gas tank is so I DON'T run it with bad gas, is this step really necessary or can I just say hell with it and undo the little nut at the back of the tank? |

Don't take anything apart. Just get a 4 ft piece of clear tubing, siphon the gas out and be done with it. |
